Los Angeles County
- Los Angeles County
Department of Animal Care and Control. "The Los Angeles County
Department of Animal Care and Control is one of the largest and most
progressive animal control agencies in the United States. Our six animal
shelters serve all unincorporated County areas and 50 contract cities.
We cover more than 3,200 square miles of cities, deserts, beaches, and
mountains; from the Antelope Valley in the north to the Palos Verdes
Peninsula in the south; as far east as the border of San Bernardino
County and west all the way to Thousand Oaks. We provide animal control
and rescue services 24 hours a day, seven days a week in our service
area.
Our shelters offer a wide variety of potential pets for you and your
family to choose from. Most of our animals are either strays or pets
turned in by owners no longer able to keep them. The many benefits of
adopting from a County Animal Care Center include; low-cost spaying and
neutering, a free veterinary check-up, and the knowledge that your new
pet has already received initial vaccinations against contagious
diseases.
Besides patrolling busy streets, backroads, beaches and canyons for
lost, injured and abandoned animals, our animal control officers also
sell dog licenses, conduct humane investigations whenever cruelty to
animals is suspected, provide emergency rescues during natural
disasters, and enforce all state and local animal control laws.
If we can ever assist you in the months and years ahead, please don’t
hesitate to call your nearest County Animal Care and Control Center."

- San Pedro
- Peninsula Dog Parks, Inc.
"Peninsula Dog Parks, Inc., was organized in 1998 by concerned dog
owners in the San Pedro/Palos Verdes Peninsula area who saw a need for
an off-leash dog park. We are an all-volunteer, non-profit group
governed by a six member Board of Directors. PDPI has worked closely
with government officials and local agencies to make this park possible.
While the Port of Los Angeles has been extremely generous in
establishing the park, other needed supplies will be provided on an on
going basis through our fund-raising efforts of PDPI. In August of 2003
Knoll Hill Off-Leash Dog Park became a reality due to the dedication and
hard work of individuals and agencies committed to creating a safe and
secure area where the community’s canines can exercise off-leash
including: Councilwoman Janice Hahn and the Port of Los Angeles."
- Huntington Beach

located on Pacific Coast Highway between 21st St. and Seapoint St. in
the beautiful city of Huntington Beach (about 10 miles from Disneyland
in Anaheim). One mile of golden sands and the exciting Pacific Ocean
have made Dog Beach a paradise for dogs where they can frolic in the
water and taste a sense of freedom--rarely found elsewhere.
- Long Beach

Ace of Hearts. "We are
a 501c-3 dog rescue foundation dedicated to rescuing dogs, the day they
are to be euthanized, from various Los Angeles shelters and placing them
in loving homes. We do NOT take dogs in... we rescue only from shelters.
The Ace of Hearts Foundation is in memory of "Ace", a wonderful American
Bull dog who was rescued from death, and touched the lives of many!
(Especially founder Kari Whitman!) We rescue all breeds...and don't
discriminate against any!"
-
Adopt-A-Chow L.A. "We Rescue chows (& mixes) and help 0wners who
can no longer care for their dogs. We re-home saved dogs through our

Akita Buddies. "Akita Buddies Akita Rescue is committed to
locating loving permanent homes for the canine friends who come into the
organization’s care. Akita Buddies works hard to become an important
information center to current and potential owners of Akitas so that they
can raise healthy, socialized, and happy Akitas.
Akita Buddies Akita Rescue has a outdoor kennel that is dedicated to
rescue, training and boarding of Akita’s and are available to respond to
inquiries for information and assistance for Akita owners. Volunteers
donate their time for shelter checks, temperament evaluations,
transportation and foster care as well as financial donations for
veterinary bills, supplies and food.
We rely heavily on donations to support our rescue efforts. Many of the
Akita’s that come here are from California Animal Shelters or Humane
Societies. Others come from Arizona and Nevada facilities and from owners
who can no longer care for them. Some have just been abandoned.

Animals Rule. "Animals Rule Placement Foundation was founded in
2003 by Stephanie Crawford. We are a group of non paid volunteers who have
come together to rescue and foster animals in need of adoption. We believe
in the spay & neuter of all animals, regardless of breed, in order to aid
in the prevention of pet overpopulation. We strive to help decrease the
number of dogs being euthanized in our local animal shelters by providing
basic training for those dogs that have behaviors which need to be
modified. We also make sure sick or injured animals receive veterinary
care and necessary rehabilitation. Our dogs come to us from a variety of
different sources. Some dogs are rescued from our City and County
Shelters, most are strays, neglected, abandoned or abused dogs, and others
are from our Community Outreach Program which helps to rehome family
pets."
