Emergency

  • American Red Cross of Greater Los Angeles. Established 87 years ago, on October 2, 1916, the American Red Cross of Greater Los Angeles is the second largest chapter in the nation.

We serve 36 cities and a number of large unincorporated areas with a population of nearly 6 million in more than 1,600 square miles. To reach so many people, there are seven service centers located throughout the area, where Southern Californians may go for service or to volunteer. Local residents also may call the chapter headquarters to reach any of our services.

Chapter volunteers numbering more than 17,166 are prepared to respond around the clock, 365 days a year to assure that our services are provided when they are needed. Leadership of the chapter is the responsibility of a volunteer board of directors elected from the communities served by the chapter.

The American Red Cross of Greater Los Angeles volunteer and paid staff are committed to helping Prepare LA."

Women

  • Los Angeles Commission on Assaults Against Women (LACAAW). "LACAAW is a non-profit, multi-cultural, feminist, community-based volunteer organization. Our mission is the elimination of violence against women, youth and children through working toward social change, equality and social justice.

We have adopted several approaches in our work: education, prevention and intervention. Since 1971, we have served the Los Angeles community, empowering survivors of sexual assault, domestic violence and child abuse.

Our prevention and intervention programs have had widespread impact, including our nationally recognized self-defense training program and the In Touch With Teens relationship violence prevention curriculum. These programs reach underserved and high-risk women, teens and children, those who are Deaf, homeless, elderly, physically or developmentally disabled, and recent immigrants. We believe that no one need face the crisis of personal violence alone and that sexual and domestic violence is preventable."
