Los Angeles and Southern California Earthquake Information
- California Integrated Seismic Network
(CISN). "The California Integrated Seismic Network (CISN) is a
partnership among federal, state, and university agencies involved in
California earthquake monitoring. The CISN is dedicated to serve the
emergency response, engineering, and scientific communities. The CISN is a
region of the Advanced National Seismic System."
- Southern California Earthquake Center.
"The Southern California Earthquake Center (SCEC), headquartered at the
University of Southern California, was founded in 1991 with a mission to
gather new information about earthquakes in Southern California, integrate
this information into a comprehensive and predictive understanding of
earthquake phenomena, and communicate this understanding to end-users and
the general public in order to increase earthquake awareness, reduce
economic losses, and save lives. Funding for SCEC activities is provided
by the National Science Foundation (NSF) and the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS).
An outstanding community of scientists from over 54 institutions
throughout the country participate in SCEC. To support this community,
SCEC engages in information technology research that will revolutionize
our methods of doing collaborative research and distributing research
products on-line. In addition, the SCEC Communication, Education, and
Outreach Program offers student research experiences, web-based education
tools, classroom curricula, museum displays, public information brochures,
online newsletters, and technical workshops and publications."
