- Aikido-Iaido-KODO. "For those interested in Aikido, Iaido,
Japanese swordsmanship and arts of the Samurai sword. Q & A and
discussions on traditional martial arts with Rev. Kensho Furuya, author of
KODO Ancient Ways and Chief Instructor of the Aikido Center of Los
Angeles, Little Tokyo, California. Furuya Sensei is a 6th Dan in Aikido,
trained directly under the late 2nd Doshu Kisshomaru Ueshiba Sensei in
1969, and now follows 3rd Doshu Moriteru Ueshiba Sensei and is directly
affiliated with the Aikikai Hombu Dojo in Tokyo, Japan. He is also a 6th
Dan Kyoshi Grade in Iaido. He has attained degrees from the University of
Southern California and Harvard University in Asian Studies and has
written over one hundred published articles on Aikido, the martial arts,
Samurai swords and related arts, Zen and the Japanese fine arts and
culture over his long career. He brings nearly 50 years of experience,
research and study into this yahoo group. He is currently in the midst of
extensive research on the life and art of Miyamoto Musashi and in the area
of Yagyu sword guards. Furuya Sensei has made numerous appearances on the
Discovery, History Channel, A&E and many others and featured in Black
Belt, Inside Kung Fu, Martial Arts Masters, Omni, People, Kick Illustrated
and Martial Arts Training, etc. The Aikido Center of Los Angeles just
celebrated its 30th Anniversary in 2004.
This group is an extension of the dojo and is a open learning forum
welcome to everyone. Information submitted here is part of this learning
process. Although personal experiences in training and questions related
to this are welcome, please do not submit private inquiries outside of the
context of your training in Aikido, Iaido and other traditional martial
arts. Inquiries and questions about KODO are very welcome. Please
