• Vietnamese Language and Culture.  "It has been more than two decades since the first wave of Vietnamese refugees arrived in the United States. After sacrificing everything they had, many Vietnamese have successfully re-established their lives in this land of freedom and opportunities through hard work and determination. As Vietnamese parents flourish in business, their children excel in academics at all levels.
  
  Although they left Vietnam at a very young age, Vietnamese youths, especially college students, still remember their roots and seek to learn more about the many beautiful customs and traditions of their motherland. In an effort to help each other preserve the beautiful Vietnamese Culture, Vietnamese Language and Culture (VNLC) was founded in the Fall of 1994 on the campus of the University of California, Los Angeles. Also known as Sinh Hoa.t Quê Hu*o*ng , the program strives to promote and raise awareness about the wonderful Vietnamese culture, language, and historical backgrounds through peer tutoring. Since its founding, the program has provided a friendly environment enabling all participants to study the Vietnamese language as well as to engage in cultural activities and exchange ideas and experiences. VNLC has also expanded its services to the Vietnamese community of Southern California, teaching and serving as mentors to our younger brothers and sisters at the Indochinese Youth Community Center in the South Bay. Beginning in the 2000-2001 academic year, VNLC will also tutor students in the San Fernando Valley.
  
  We hope that the participants in our programs will learn and share their knowledge by engaging in related Asian/Vietnamese American community activities either on campus or in other communities in Southern California."
