  • California Theater of the Performing Arts. "The California Theater of the Performing Arts is the showplace of live entertainment in the Inland Empire, featuring first class national tours, exquisite San Bernardino Symphony performances, spectacular concerts with Maestro Carlo Ponti, Jr., and lively ballet presentations.

    Performances take place in the historic 1,700-seat California Theater of the Performing Arts which is one of just three such remaining movie theaters in the nation. Opened in 1928, the theater features lavish Spanish colonial style architecture and interior with beautiful inlays, chandeliers, sweeping staircase, tapestries and ornate sculptured moldings, both inside and out. Will Rogers gave his last performance here in 1935 before his untimely death, and is celebrated on the exterior by two 68-foot-high murals by the world famous artist Kent Twitchell.

    The California Theater is home to the San Bernardino Symphony, Theatrical Arts International, Sinfonia Mexicana,

  • History of San Bernardino, CA from the City of San Bernardino. San Bernardino's colorful history begins in the early years of the 19th century. Spanish missionaries were the first settlers to the region. They chose the fertile valley at the foot of a majestic mountain range as an outpost for other missionaries who traveled throughout the California territory preaching to the various Indian tribes.

    Tradition has it that Father Francisco Dumetz made his last trip from Mission San Gabriel to the San Bernardino Valley and on May 20, 1810 set up an altar in a planned effort to convert the indians living there. Padre Dumetz named the area "san Bernardino" after Saint Bernardino of Siena, the patron saint of the day on the Catholic Calendar..."

"San Bernardino County Library has joined with the Riverside County Library, Murietta Public Library, Moreno Valley Public Library and College of the Desert to create a combined online catalog. As result, over two million residents of Riverside and San Bernardino Counties are now able to access and request (free of charge) all the books, videos, CDs, DVDs, audio books, e-books, etc. through a unified catalog and delivery system known as iBistro TM.Library borrowers now have convenient access to over 2.3 million materials. The Catalog can also be accessed in any branch library and from your home, office or school and has a Spanish interface. On-line Public Access Catalog. All you need is a free library card issued from any of the consortium libraries. Materials can be conveniently picked up any of the member’s more than 60 library locations.

    Each of our 30 branch libraries also maintains a collection of reference materials designed to meet the needs of the local community. In addition to local materials, library staff have access to additional extensive collections of reference resources in all formats, from print to tangible electronic products (such as CD-ROMs) and on-line databases."

  • Cal State San Bernardino. " A young, vibrant university, California State University, San Bernardino is the sole public comprehensive university serving the San Bernardino and Riverside counties of Southern California.

    Founded in 1965, its mission is to provide quality higher education and leadership to promote social, cultural and economic progress in the community and region. Enrollment annually tops 16,000 and is on pace to reach more than 20,000 by 2010.

    Located equidistant between Los Angeles and Palm Springs in the heart of Southern California, the campus serves the rapidly expanding Inland Empire, an area encompassing more than 27,000 square miles - a territory larger than 10 states. The two counties continue to have a population that is among the fastest growing in the nation.

    Five academic colleges, offering more than 70 degree and certificates, afford a wide array of choices for students. Many programs have earned specialized national accreditation, including business, which was the first in the Inland Empire to gain national accreditation at both the graduate and undergraduate levels. Its M.B.A. program is highly respected, as are programs in computer science, geographic information and decision sciences, psychology, health, public administration, and accounting and finance, among many others. The university is one of the nation's largest teacher-training institutions, and 95 percent of the College of Education's graduates with teaching credentials are employed full-time a year after graduation. CSUSB science students are readily accepted into the most prestigious medial schools in the country. CSUSB's Inland Empire Center for Entrepreneurship was recognized among the nation's top regional programs for entrepreneurs by Entrepreneur Magazine.

    Cal State San Bernardino is one of the most diverse universities among the 23 California State University campuses, with a student enrollment so diverse that there is no majority ethnic group on campus.

    The university also has a permanent branch campus in Palm Desert, where a unique public-private partnership has built facilities with funds raised from municipalities, corporations, foundations and individuals. The Palm Desert campus provides the region with its only upper division institution of higher education and is helping to build the college-going rate in the Coachella Valley that is currently only 30 percent among local high school graduates (compared to the national average of 62 percent).

    More than 55,000 alumni hale from CSUSB, including 85 percent who work in Southern California and make a major positive impact on the economy. CSUSB currently enrolls nearly 17,000 students and employs 3,000 faculty and staff."  
  • Chaffey Community College. "The college district serves the population of the vibrant inland empire of western San Bernardino County, where the communities of Chino, Chino Hills, Fontana, Guasti, Montclair, Mt. Baldy, Ontario, Rancho Cucamonga (Alta Loma, Cucamonga, and Etiwanda), and Upland are located. Four districts serving high school students are contained in these communities. They are the Chaffey Joint Union High School, the Chino Unified School District, the Fontana Unified School District, and the Upland Unified School District."
  • Copper Mountain Community College District. "Copper Mountain College (CMC), located six miles east of Joshua Tree, is renowned as the college built by the people, its first phase having been paid for almost entirely with local private money and subsequent phases with substantial private help. Now governed by its own locally elected board of trustees, CMC's road to independence was accelerated by legislative action in recognition of the college's uniquely strong local support. The college currently serves approximately 6,000 enrolled students annually with a full-time faculty of 30 and an adjunct faculty of 100..."

    As one of the 109 colleges in the California community college system, Crafton Hills is committed to providing citizens in the region with an accessible higher education. The philosophy of California’s community colleges is that education is the key to better jobs, a better economy, and a better quality of life.

    Crafton has an enrollment of 5,100 students. The small size of the college allows for much more one-on-one communication between instructors and students. It is located on the rolling hills above the cities of Yucaipa and Redlands.

  • San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools. "The Office of the Superintendent is committed to working with school districts, other agencies, families and the community at large by providing services, information, advocacy and leadership – always with a focus on students.

    With an annual operating budget of $350 million, the County Superintendent oversees the programs and operations of the office and serves as the employer of record for nearly 2,000 employees including teachers, paraprofessionals, and administrative staff.

    The Office of the Superintendent provides educational leadership to the school districts in San Bernardino County; advocates locally, statewide and nationally for policies and resources that are in the best interest of students; and serves as a spokesperson for the educational needs of students throughout the county and statewide. The County Superintendent is an elected position and serves a four-year term. The position also serves as the ex-officio secretary and executive officer to the County Board of Education and provides administrative support services to the County School Boards Association."
