Animal Shelters

  • Animal Match Rescue Team, Inc. "AMRT.NET is dedicated to facilitating adoption of shelter and rescue pets in the Southern California area. We believe there are a lot of pets euthanized in shelters while there are potential pet owners looking to adopt and cannot find them. The goal of the creators of this web site is to assist potential pet owners in finding a shelter or rescued pet."
  • City of Los Angeles Animal Services.
  • Glendale Humane Society. "The Glendale Humane Society is a private non-profit 501(c)(3) humane rescue and education organization, founded in 1924. For more than 80 years, the GHS has worked to find safe, loving homes for lost, unwanted and abandoned companion animals in Southern California.

We are a no-kill facility. The majority of our animals come from city and county shelters that routinely euthanize adoptable animals due to over-crowded conditions. Once at Glendale Humane Society, these animals remain in our care until placed in loving, permanent homes.
  • Inland Valley Humane Society & SPCA. "In 1949, four women in the Inland Empire were appalled. They saw the way that stray animals in their community were housed and treated and were not happy. Rather than simply complain to their city, these women decided to do something. The four of them pledged $1 each to form a corporation dedicating itself to aiding the animals of their community and the Pomona Valley Humane Society was created.

Today, we are known as the Inland Valley Humane Society & S.P.C.A. (IVHS-SPCA). We currently serve 11 cities and county areas with a total population of over 750,000. We provide food, shelter and medical treatment to over 400 dogs and 200 cats each day. We handle service calls ranging from deceased animal pick-up to investigating complaints of animal abuse.

What started as the mission of four women has grown into a foundation dedicated to caring for animals and to educating the communities that we serve. Our mission is "To care for, to protect and to speak for all the animals in our community." We strive to live that mission every day and to work to provide the care and beliefs that our founders intended."
  • Irvine Animal Care Center. "Our 5-acre facility houses nearly 3,000 homeless animals every year. Our pets live in roomy kennels with plenty of beds, blankets and toys, and each of them also enjoys daily playtime in our enclosed yards and exercise rooms with their buddies (two-legged and four-legged!).

If there's one thing our 25 staff members and 300 volunteers have in common, it's that we're crazy about animals! We work hard to make sure that our pets are comfortable and happy during their stay with us, and that we place them in just the right adoptive homes. 90% of the animals who arrive at our shelter are either returned safely to their owners, or adopted into new, loving homes."
  • Long Beach Health and Human Services Animal Control. "The Bureau of Animal Control is responsible for enforcing all Federal, State and local laws pertaining to the ownership and treatment of animals within the City of Long Beach and contract cities. The Bureau conducts annual low-cost rabies clinics to assist residents in complying with licensing laws, and provides public education and awareness programs on responsible pet ownership and the importance of spaying/neutering to combat the animal overpopulation problem. Annually, the Bureau of Animal Control responds to over 21,000 calls for service and handles more than 20,000 animals.
  • Los Angeles County Animal Shelters from the Department of Animal Care & Control.
  • Mission Viejo Animal Shelter. Comment:  One of the best animal services Web sites listed here. It should be the model that other animal shelters follow.
  • Orange Animal Care Services. "Animal Care Services promotes: responsible pet ownership; health and safety of people and animals and spay/neuter programs. The Animal Care Center provides temporary shelter and medical care for "lost" owned or stray animals and opportunities for adoption of these animals.

Animal Care Services provides pet licensing and patrol services to 19 contract cities and all the unincorporated areas of the County. Animal Care Services Care Center houses and provides medical care for impounded dogs, cats and exotic animals. Adoption services are also available."
  • Pasadena Humane Society & SPCA. "The Pasadena Humane Society & SPCA is an independent, private, non-profit organization dedicated to the welfare of our animal friends since 1903. Each year we care for more than 10,000 animals from the seven cities we serve: Pasadena, South Pasadena, San Marino, La Canada/ Flintridge, Sierra Madre, Arcadia and Glendale. Our services include animal control, investigation of animal cruelty and neglect, licensing for La Canada and Arcadia, adoptions, pet behavior help and training classes, and humane education."
  • Riverside Department of Animal Services.
  • Santa Monica Animal Shelter. "The Santa Monica Animal Control Section provides numerous services to the community, including the investigation of complaints regarding animals and the operation of a full-service animal shelter serving the City of Santa Monica."
  • Seal Beach Animal Care Center. "The Seal Beach Animal Care Center is a non-profit animal shelter dedicated to aiding lost and abandoned pets, helping people with pet related problems, promoting responsible pet ownership and pet population control, and preventing cruelty to animals through educational programs."
  • Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. "spcaLA is an independent, nonprofit animal welfare organization serving Southern California since 1877. Donations run programs and services including Cruelty Investigation, Disaster Animal Response Team, Humane Education and a variety of shelter services.

spcaLA is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization, independently chartered organization that is not affiliated with any other "SPCA" or humane society. There is no national SPCA, parent organization, or umbrella group that provides financial support. Each SPCA and Humane Society are completely unrelated organizations.

spcaLA does not receive funding from any federal, state or local government agency. Financial support for the organization's humane programs is provided solely by donations from individuals, corporations, and foundations.

spcaLA believes that animals, as living creatures, have value beyond economic measurement, and are entitled to legal, moral and ethical consideration and protection......spcaLA is dedicated to the prevention of cruelty to animals through Education, Law Enforcement, Intervention and Advocacy."
  • Southeast Area Animal Control Authority (SEAACA). "Founded in 1975, the Southeast Area Animal Control Authority (SEAACA) is a municipal joint-powers agency serving 12 cities in Los Angeles County...SEAACA shelters strays and injured or sick animals rescued by Animal Control Officers or concerned members of the public. When a resident in SEAACA's service area must give up a pet but cannot find a suitable home, SEAACA accepts the animal. SEAACA wants all the animals taken in to find wonderful homes. Though the placement rate is never 100%, adoption numbers are steadily improving..."
  • County of Ventura Animal Regulation. "The Department of Animal Regulation serves a dual role in that we are tasked with protecting the animals of Ventura County from the actions of cruel, neglectful and irresponsible people and of protecting the people of Ventura County from dangerous, vicious and destructive animals.

We provide services that include the impounding of: stray animals; pickup and treatment of sick and injured strays; wildlife that is presenting a traffic hazard, public nuisance or health risk; stray and unwanted livestock or fowl; nuisance animal investigations; bite investigations and quarantines; license sales and rabies vaccination clinics; euthanasia and disposal services; pickup of dead animals (except livestock) and assistance with animal evacuations during disasters. We do not provide spaying and neutering, kennel services, microchip services or veterinary care to the general public.

At our Camarillo Shelter we house impounded stray, abandoned, lost and homeless animals and provide veterinary care, housing and board while the animals await reclaim or adoption. Adoption and reclaim of animals is available during public Counter Hours."
